SYNOPSIS: Thousands of women have found themselves incarcerated in prisons across Asia for smuggling drugs. This disproportionally high rate of female prisoners is largely driven by drug syndicates who have targeted vulnerable women. The majority of these foreign female drug mules are single mothers - some are driven by financial desperation, others are lured by the promise of an exciting new job, or are tricked by a love scam. Once caught, they serve sentences ranging up to 25 years in prison, leaving a devastating impact on the lives of their children.
Mule follows the stories of Sodhi (Malaysia) and Faith (Kenya), who were jailed in Asia for drug trafficking. After having been separated from their families for years, they try to rebuild their lives and give meaning to their experience in prison through activism, while facing judgement from their communities.
